Core Strength is Key for Fat Runners

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Being one who has been through a couple of back surgeries and due to my ongoing recurring problems related to my back, mileage is significantly reduced. In fact most of my cardio or mileage is accokmplished via an elliptical trainer these days to eleviate the pounding on my back. That said I like many others tend to ignore my core muscles (abs and lower back).

Sadly this is one of the most ignorant things a fat runner can do. It will lead to back pain down the road. A strong core helps hold the body upright and takes some of the impact that runners sustain. As fat runners, we are more sustable to back injuries, muscular or mechancial, and must be aware of this.
