Fat Boy's Training Log
« Previous EntriesBag of Butt Run
Monday, February 1st, 2010Yes, this mornings short 20 minute run had me feeling like a bag of butt. Two months off has really hurt. I did do 50 pullups this morning, but not all at once of course. I just hope it doesn’t take long for my body to get adjusted to running again or this will be a very long slow road.
Later today, I will hit the elliptical trainer. Half of the problem is that I gained bout 20 pounds over the last two months…bad, bad, bad!!! So I think I just need to do some weight loss and base building, so long slow workouts for a while.
Fat Runner’s Week Off
Wednesday, December 9th, 2009So the fat runner is getting fatter this week. After the run on Sunday where Idid my pace run mixed with my long run, I have been nursing a really sensitive hamstring and a little case of the laziness, but the hamstring really does bother me to the point of not feeling comfortable to run for fear of long term injury.
Added a new header to our website, hope you like it
Long Run Mixed with Pace Work
Sunday, December 6th, 2009Todays workout was a make up for yesterday, whiich was supposed to be a 5 mile run, of whihc 2 miles were supposed to be at 10k race pace. Today was supposed to be a 6 mile run. So I mixed both together and did a total of 7+ miles with some pace work throughout the entire run.
It felt really good and I haven’t felt this good on a run in about 3 weeks. I plan on adding some hills to my treadmill workout soon, just not sure when I should throw them in. I am thinking during the pace work out or long run.
Killer Quarter Mile Intervals
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009If you are like most runners, you do not care for intervals. For me it is the most dreaded workout of the week. Today was a reminder as to why I hate interval training. Todays workout was supposed to be 6 quarter mile intervals. I started off with a 5 minute warmup, then went right into the intervals. I would run a quarter and jog a quarter.
Now, I did this for 4 quarters and then I was dead. I dropped the next two down to .15 mile intervals, so basically chopped them in half. I was smoked, and after looking ahead on the training schedule, by week 8, I am supposed to be up to 12 quarter mile intervals.
35 Minute Tempo Run Kicked My Butt
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009The workout today was a 30 minute tempo run. I used the first 7 minutes for warmup and then maintained a tempo heart rate (86-92%) for almost 20 minutes and then did a 8 minute cooldown.
I was really feeling the pain during this tempo run, not sure why because it should have beena breeze, but I struggled through it.
Tmorrow’s workout calls for a speed workout with 6×400 meter intervals. Hopefully I get through this slump that I was in for the tempo run.
10K Training Plan Started
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009Started the new 10K training plan yesterday. It called for a 3 mile easy run. I ended up doing 4 miles easy while watching a football game.
Once I was finished with that I did 30 minutes easy on the elliptical trainer.
After a week off, my legs felt like garbage that evening. However, they feel much better today.
Was hoping to get in the 30 minute tempo run called for, but had too much going on at work. Should be able to get it done tomorrow and isntead of resting on a rest day, just pound out the rest of the week on the rest days.
Turkey Traks 5K and Rest Week
Thursday, November 26th, 2009Ran the Turkey Traks 5k and it went well considering. I wasn’t expecting the hills to be such a factor, but there is what is called the Habu trail that a good deal of the course was on and per the name, those hills will bite like a Habu. Training on the treadmill did not come close to preparing me for those hills. I didn’t do too bad on the hills, but it was after the roller coaster hills that my legs just died.
Turkey Traks 5k Run Tomorrow – Thanksgiving Day Run
Friday, November 20th, 2009Been almost a week since my last post and I apologize to all the RunningFat readers for this.
NO! I was not out eating all week at Burger King. It was a crazy and busy week.
Knocked out a couple good workouts in and some easy runs to bring me into the race this Sunday at Futenma. It will be a 5k race and I am shooting for 20 to 21 for my finish time.
For those that may not know, I have been following the Hal Higdon Advanced 5k Training Plan for the last 8 weeks. So this Sunday will be the culmination of 8 weeks of hard work.
90 Minute Long Run
Monday, November 16th, 2009Sunday’s workout was a 90 minute long run at an easy pace. This was an enjoyable run that I really felt the last 20 minutes. I kept the pace to a point where my heart rate was between 65-85% of maximum heart rate. The average was around 71% for the entire duration.
This was the last big workout before the 5k race on Sunday. I have an easy 2 miler and another workout of 6×200 intervals to do this week before the race, but both of these are easy quick workouts.
6 Miles Fast…or not
Friday, November 13th, 20096 miles fast is what the workout called for today. I decided to through in a little speed play or fart lek into this, but found out that after a week of little rest, this was the wrong call. I quickly felt drained after mile 4. I ended the last .64 miles walking and my heart rate never dropped below 76% of MHR which was a bad sign from everything I have read about heart rate training and rest.
I am going to look for an article that talks about checking for proper rest using heart rate training after I post this and I will post it later for all.
