Running (General)
« Previous EntriesBack from Injury and Overtraining Woes
Sunday, January 31st, 2010…at least hopefully, I am back.
Made it through a 3 mile run this morning, but no lingering pain in my hamstring. So I plan on taking it easy through this week, feel it out and then pick up the pace.
It has been almost two months since feeling the injury for the first time and I have only ran about 3 times. Between it and a bad chest cold that continued to linger, I am really feeling out of shape.
The doctor increased my meds again as well, because I told him I felt really sluggish since he decreased the prescription. So hopefully that will help as well.
Tempo Run, Fast 5 Miler, 70 Minutes Easy
Sunday, October 18th, 2009Wednesday was a rest day.
Thursday did a 35 minute tempo pace run. The first ten minutes was at easy warm up pace, the next 20 was at tempo pace, 86-94% of max heart rate, then a 5 minute cool down.
Friday was another much needed rest day.
Saturday was a fast 5 miler. Started at a slow easy pace and picked it up until I surpassed the maximum tempo rate, then slowly dropped it back until completion and ended with a 10 minute cool down. Threw in a 35 minute elliptical workout at the end at an easy-moderate pace.
Burn Fat Running: The 15 Second Drill
Saturday, May 30th, 2009The 15 Second Drill
Starting at the baseline speed established per my instructions in this article “Burn Fat Running on a Treadmill”, you will increase by .1 MPH every 15 seconds until you reach your maximum limit as outlined in the fore mentioned article.
Once you reach the maximum limit, stay at that speed for 15 more seconds, then decrease back down to your baseline speed.
Run your baseline speed for 15 seconds, then repeat the process over again.
Half Marathon Training for the Fat Guy
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009So my fat running butt has been slacking when it comes to training for a half-marathon. For some reason, I am barely motivating myself to run for 30 minutes at a time. The exception being this weekend when I ran for an hour on the treadmill Saturday and on Sunday.
I have to get my stuff in gear. This fat tail is not going to dig the half marathon if it is not ready for it.
Running Fat and the Fat Run: No laughing matter
Monday, August 11th, 2008Everyone seems to get a kick out of or they are insulted by the title of this site, Running Fat. However it is not intended to be insulting, but I do expect it to be funny at times. One thing that is no laughing matter is being obese.
People, who are too fat, run the risk of several health problems. How fat a person is can be determined using the Body Mass Index (BMI), which is calculated by dividing the weight of the person by the square height of that person. A person is classified as overweight if the BMI is between 25 and 30 and as obese if BMI is 30 or more. Both overweight and obese people are generally considered fat.
Running Fat Gets Personal
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008For those of us who fight the battle of the bulge as we get older, life can become a little disappointing. If you are like me, you may have been athletic most of your life, but circumstances and life itself has changed the equation a little. For me it was good home cooking and two back surgeries, the last resulting in an artificial disc implant at L5-S1, along with a bought with Graves Disease.
The Benefits of Having a Running Partner
Monday, July 14th, 2008Author: Laura Davis
Having running buddy depending upon you to turning up and knowing that you will let them down will encourage you to turn up, you will feel obliged to turn up whether you like it or not. Making a pact at the start of your training promising to motivate one another during each run will lead to persistency and ensuring you both encourage one another when you do not want to go. It is proven that having a training partner will make runners last in the longer term.
Burn Fat, Lose Weight – The Secret to Burning Fat Naturally
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008By Debra Gropp
The easiest and quickest way to burn fat and lose weight is to get your metabolism revved up by eating small protein-rich meals at regular intervals of three to three-and-a-half hours throughout the day. This forces the body to maintain a steady insulin level that prevents excess insulin being released, thus avoiding fat build-up. Instead, your body must use the energy right away, keeping a consistent fat-burning level.
The Benefits Of Jogging
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008By S. Wagner
I remember as a kid when jogging first came into vogue. It was the thing to do. And of course, the more popular it became, the more gadgets that people had to have for their jogging routine, including the outfits, the walkmans, you name it. Even advertising latched onto the jogging craze. Just about every commercial you saw had a jogger in it. Well, jogging isn’t the big craze that it once was, but the benefits of this great form of exercise are still there. That much hasn’t changed. In this article, we’re going to cover just some of the benefits of jogging. Hopefully, after reading this, you’ll be digging into your hope chest and getting out your old walkman once again.
Running Fast
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008Running fast! Run fast! Let’s face it, running fast is what everyone wants, right?
WRONG!
See, there is a mis-conception among elite or high caliber runners that everyone who likes running wants to run fast. I think we all know this is not true, especially those who read the articles on this blog. If you are Running Fat like me then you love running for the running itself and not to start running faster.
