7 Exercises to Burn Fat

By admin | November 15, 2008

Congratulations! Give yourself a pat on the back for reading this article. Because you’re one of the few people who actually realise that to burn fat you actually have to exercise. That fact alone puts you in the top 5% of people who want to get in shape.

If you don’t know me, my name is Ian Jones, I’m going to reveal my 7 favourite fat burning exercises.

I’ve chosen the following exercises for a range of reasons, firstly most can be done cheaply in terms of equipment needed or memberships required. Secondly, they are all highly effective in terms of the number of calories burned per hour. So you’ll burn more calories faster! Finally, I know you will be able to find one exercise from this list that you enjoy. I could happily do all the exercises on this list 4-5 times a week and love every minute! Try them all and see which you enjoy the most.

Here’s the list:

1- Running - It’s incredibly effective for fat burning. Plus all you need is a pair a shorts and some decent running trainers. If you can join a local running club do so, as running with others will motivate you to keep going. Running will tone up and strengthen your legs. You’ll burn at least 600-800+ calories per hour.

2- Swimming - A powerful full body workout, which will tone and strengthen your arms, shoulders and legs. It’s relatively cheap to swim in your local pool, however if you want to swim competitively, club memberships can be quite pricey. You’ll burn 400-600 calories per hour.

3- Cycling - A great sport for toning and strengthening your legs. It’s also great for people who find the intensity of running to much. Bikes aren’t cheap, however, you can often get some great deals online or second hand in your local newspaper classified ads (don’t forget a new helmet). You’ll burn 300-650 calories per hour.

4- Thai Kickboxing (Muay Thai) - Kicks, punches, elbows and knees - the Muay Thai weapons! Thai Kickboxing is a brilliant sport. It’s fun, it’s hard work and it’ll give you great self-defence skills. It’s a full body workout that’ll really challenge most people. After a few months you’ll find your whole body leaner, toned and you’ll be a whole lot stronger. You’ll burn 500-800 calories per hour.

5- Squash - A deceptively fun sport. It’s also deceptively hard work. If you’ve never played squash you’ll quickly realise why. Dashing round the court like a madman you’ll uncover muscles you’d forgotten about a long time ago. Rackets and court hire are not always cheap so you may have to hunt around to find a venue that fits your budget and you’ll also need a partner to play against. You’ll burn 650-800 calories per hour .

6- Circuit Training - Hard work and not nearly as fun as some of the other sports listed here. If you go to a well structured circuit training session (usually run by your local gym or community centre), you’ll do exercises to tone up and strengthen every major muscle group. You’ll burn 400-600 calories per hour.

7- Rowing - For the serious fat burner only. Rowing is great for burning fat and it also strengthens and tones your arms, shoulders and legs. It’s hard work and unless you can find a local rowing club (which might be expensive), you’ll have to join a gym to use a rowing machine. You’ll burn 500-750 calories per hour.

Pick one and have a go.

The actually number of calories you’ll burn will vary on how hard you work, your current level of fitness, your weight, and a number of other factors. The numbers above are estimates for the average person working at a moderate intensity.

If you want to get results faster, work harder. To really power up these exercises add a weight training session into your workout schedule. Everyone who wants to burn fat and get in shape should lift weights or do resistance training.

To get the most benefit possible, write a training plan or get one written (a good example is Turbulence Training), set yourself goals and stick to it. Be patient, be persistent and you’ll reach your goals in no time, good luck!
