Fat Runners Should Love Running Hills
Friday, January 2nd, 2009Yes, I said it! But wait one second before you leave. Running hills is a blast and can be very fun (I see you rolling your eyes). Anyway, it is a great alternative to intense interval training and builds strength in the legs.
Running hills can also be a good way to work on that posture and arm swing, expecially the arm swing. Check out this post about how running hills stink.
Core Strength is Key for Fat Runners
Monday, September 15th, 2008Being one who has been through a couple of back surgeries and due to my ongoing recurring problems related to my back, mileage is significantly reduced. In fact most of my cardio or mileage is accokmplished via an elliptical trainer these days to eleviate the pounding on my back. That said I like many others tend to ignore my core muscles (abs and lower back).
Sadly this is one of the most ignorant things a fat runner can do. It will lead to back pain down the road. A strong core helps hold the body upright and takes some of the impact that runners sustain. As fat runners, we are more sustable to back injuries, muscular or mechancial, and must be aware of this.
